When the light hit its face, the Heartless immediately pulled up one of its arms to try and shield its eyes. Yellow as they were, they weren't made to absorb light, and it had to fight against the instinct to back away, or even to run. But it had spent last night just running and running, and all that had gotten it was some blood spilled.

It wasn't enough.

Kratos smacked the Heartless in the neck, causing it to jerk away, but in the end a blunt attack wasn't going to do much good. It would need to be pierced or slashed into in order to do any real damage. Therefore, it retaliated, pressing forward again. This time it aimed a claw for Kratos' face and tried to slice across it diagonally. The face was a weakness on most things, humans included. If it injured its target there, it'd make him much easier to take down.
