Against his will, Lloyd recognized that tone of voice from Kratos. The man usually sounded stern, but Lloyd had traveled with him long enough to know that there were different levels to it. His shoulders hunched defensively. He didn't want to acknowledge that tone, didn't want to acknowledge that he'd once been that close that he would know what that tone might mean. He didn't want to sit just because Kratos told him to.

Hunching his shoulders, though, turned out to be a mistake. The action pulled at the torn-and-stitched skin on his ribs - not a whole lot, but just enough to make him wince before he could hold the reaction back. That in turn drew his attention to the pain in his arm, and the way his arm was beginning to tremble from the effort of holding the tray. Telling himself it was only because of his injuries, Lloyd lowered himself to sit down, setting the tray on the table.

That didn't make it any easier to swallow what Kratos was saying. But as he struggled with that disbelief, the man with the glasses had a chance to say his part. The nurses...

Lloyd turned his head, and sure enough, his nurse was over there, waiting, watching. Somehow the wary way the man was looking at him made it feel like he was expecting to have to step in. Step in and do what...

Lloyd scowled. He didn't want to find out.

He turned his attention back to the others, and he opened his mouth to ask the girl - she'd fainted? - if she was all right. Too late, he was beaten to it, so he just closed his mouth as Ishida continued with the introductions. The introductions and the explanation that made him blink, startled, and completely derailed his train of thought.

"Another world?" he echoed. "You mean, like Tethe'alla and Sylvarant?" No, it wasn't a new concept to him. That wasn't what was so surprising. He just had thought there were only two. "I'm Lloyd," he added. "Lloyd Irving - from Sylvarant."

But even that surprising news could only keep his attention so long before he turned his scowl back on Kratos. He did at least keep his voice down. "I don't understand. If you're a prisoner here too, if you're really not involved, why don't you just escape? You're stronger than just about anyone-" And that admission stung. "-so what's keeping you from breaking out, or just flying away?"
