That made him jerk his head up in surprise, his hand tightening around his fork. .... It was insane. He'd heard about monsters in the halls at night, but people turning into them? Was that even possible? But hard as it was to digest, he kept his thoughts to himself and tried to force himself to relax. He didn't see any reason the other boy would have to lie about it, and putting up resistance without trying to listen was just going to make the conversation harder for both of them.
And it occurred to him that this wasn't the first time he was hearing this. He'd heard the announcement, but none of it meant anything to him at the time, so he'd completely forgotten about it until now. What was it, again?
"...They said there was a cure," he remembered aloud. But from his tablemate's condition, and the way he trailed off like that, it was easy to imagine they weren't given a free answer. "...I see. I guess it wouldn't be that simple." And then as an afterthought, "Sorry for bothering you."
He did want to ask what they'd found when they gotten there, but he could look into that on his own. From the sound of it, this boy had enough to deal with without being interrogated about it. It was probably best to just leave it be for now.
