Mike decided, as he walked out into the next hall, that tonight was probably going to suck worse than he thought. It was best to be pessimistic, so that when crap blew up in his face, he was prepared for it.
So, worse case: Shiina became a monster. Another worse case: someone else became a monster. Even worse case: Someone attacked them and then Shiina became a monster. Absolute worse case: Shiina became a monster, he and Niikura subdued her, and then another monster came along and ate all three of them.
That would just about do it, Mike decided. He kept on moving.
