He'd wasted enough time standing around, Murphy decided. But when he pushed himself off the wall to grab up his chair once more, his flashlight beam passed over something that stopped him dead in his tracks.

"Hey!" Murphy wet his lips and passed his flashlight beam around the hall, looking to see if the kid was alone or maybe a responsible adult was just behind.... He felt his stomach churn and he held out his free hand, half waving for attention and half beckoning.
