Murphy was a little surprised that the guy who walked in happened to be one of the three or so people the ex-con actually knew by name and face. That probably made things easier. Harvey had been a decent guy to him this morning, and Murphy knew what a clod he'd come off as then.
"Hey," he greeted, lifting the hand not being used as a fry shovel to wave. He figured he ought to slow down now that he was in company. But he hadn't eaten as well as he had today in years. It wasn't like he'd ever gotten care packages in the can. "Small hellhole, huh?"
He offered a small smile. His hand was practically twitching to stab his fork into his steak and just lift the whole thing to his mouth. If Harvey hadn't come in, he probably would have done just that.
