Even Chuck wasn't about to claim that he and Lawrence hadn't had their share of arguments over the years. There had always been some amount of contention, but in the end he'd never let it lead to a grudge or anything along those lines. Siblings fought, and sometimes it got nasty, but he was always of the belief that it was better to forgive and forget.

He had to remind himself that Lawrence was far from stable at the moment, but even with that in mind, the words hurt. He could see now how his brother was unhinged, and the fact that it had gotten this bad without him noticing or being able to do anything about it made it even worse.

Of course, meeting Lawrence's mood right now would do no good. Chuck didn't want to escalate this, and so he tried to stay calm despite the emotions churning through him about the whole mess.

"You're right," he said after a long pause. "I shouldn't discount you. But if you want me to try and make up for how I've wronged you, I need to understand what I've screwed up first." He frowned at Lawrence, trying to see past all the pain and hurt so that he could get a look at the brother he'd grown up with.
