Night 63: Road to/from Doyleton
[From here.]
But being outside was probably just as dangerous, if not more dangerous, than it was being trapped inside the bus with that nurse.
Besides the many other deformed nurses that were roaming around here, Zero caught sight of numerous forms flying overhead, casting large shadows on the ground as they passed by. They looked like...eagles. But deformed and horrific-looking, just like the nurses. At first, they seemed content to simply circle overhead, screeching, like vultures swarming above a carcass. But then many of them suddenly swooped down and headed straight for some of the prisoners running in the street.
Kind of like the one flying at Zero right now.
"Kh--!" The once-Reploid barely managed to dodge the monster as it dived for him by falling to the ground and rolling back onto his feet. The bird flew upwards again, slowly flapping its wings, then circled around as if to try again, another eagle joining it. To avoid them, Zero quickly moved out of the open, where he was obviously a target, and circled around one of the buses, keeping his back to it for cover. But he knew he wasn't going to be safe here...not when there were nurses on the ground and so many eagles above.
Not since the night he had become temporarily stronger had there been so much visible chaos... And if that one prisoner hadn't started a riot, this wouldn't be happening right now...!
As he stood contemplating the best route for escape, Zero glanced around quickly, searching the fleeing prisoners for anyone familiar or anyone who might need help. He was defenseless, so protecting someone else would only get him so far (and he certainly didn't want a repeat of two nights ago), but they all might have a better chance of survival if they grouped up...

"NO!"
Maybe Aigis knew what she was doing, that her unmoving stance meant more than just helpless terror. She was a battle droid after all. Alita herself would be still as stone before exploding into action. Unpredictability was always an asset to battle. But Sechs had already lost enough allies, he wasn't going to risk losing more by waiting for some surprise attack!
Sechs clenched his teeth and made a panicked dash towards the enormous bird of prey. He knew he was unarmed and trapped in a weak organic body, rendering his chances against the creature far too low than he would like, but he had to do something to keep it from tearing Aigis apart! "NO! AIGIS!" he shouted, using his voice as a warning to the other droid and a distraction for her attacker. "GET OUTTA THERE--"
The Replica had reached out for the bird's tail feathers, aiming to pull it away from Aigis. Within that blurred moment of darkness, running and screeching, Sechs thought he had felt his target beneath his fingers, but during the following second in time he found himself tumbling backwards, his whole vision drowning in black wings and night sky...
He didn't feel anything until his battle instincts forced him to automatically tuck in and roll against the road, preventing him from crashing to the ground head-first. Another second later and Sechs felt pain emerge on his left rib cage, not enough to break anything but a huge bruise was bound to appear there overnight. Damnit! Too slow! Despite his failure, he had been lucky there; only the tip of the creature's wing had struck him, but the force it created was enough to throw Sechs over like a hurricane gust.
Grunting and not ready to give up, Sechs scrambled back up to his feet, hoping Aigis was still in one piece behind that feathered curtain of death. If only he had some sort of weapon...!

She darted back towards the road, her hands shooting down low to gather a quick fistful of rocks. She zigzagged to the treeline and skidded to a stop.
Aigis centered her gaze back on the bird that seemed to be struggling a bit with the low altitude. As it flapped around, trying to turn on Sechs, Aigis took aim and started lobbing a steady barrage of stones at the monster's head with pinpoint accuracy. If she could draw its attention away, just for a moment...
