Day 63: The Bookworm (Early Afternoon)
Okay, so. Books? Books Eugene could deal with. He had a great fondness for them, in fact. A book had introduced him to Flynnigan Rider; you could say that practically his whole life had been shaped by that one story.
More importantly, though: books were familiar. They weren't exploding self-propelled carriages or directionless--and, even more perplexingly, flameless--lights. They weren't like the piece of paper that had somehow paid for Rapunzel's unfamiliar meal or the impossibly smooth roads. Books were, well, books. So when Rapunzel had suggested that they visit the bookshop next, Eugene had jumped at the idea.
He had his sealegs under him, thanks to his nap earlier, but he didn't tell her that. He liked the way she held onto his arm, guiding him around town. He liked it so much, in fact, that he didn't dare broach the question that had rankled him for the last hour or so until they were safely browsing through volumes amidst the familiar smells of paper and ink.
"So...that guy. Friend of yours?"
