Day 61: Recreation Field (Shift 2)

Loki wasn't entirely thrilled about returning to the recreation field, though he supposed it would be nicer during the day. And without the annoying presence of Riku. Some fresh air would likely do him good; that was what Sif and Thor had always claimed right before they dragged him out of the library.

He wasn't entirely certain if that was a pleasant thought or not. It was still far too mixed up and painful.

He was allowed to go back to his room and pull out every bit of warm clothing he had, bundling up as much as he could. As he followed the nurse out into the field, he also wondered if this meant he would miss out on the greenhouse, since he'd arranged to meet Soma after lunch. That had priority, of course, but he did find plants interesting. At least it was good to know there were activities they were forced to participate in during the day that weren't as horrifically painful as, say, what the music room would indicate.

Good to know that as prisons went, it wasn't all just torture, torture, torture. Some variation was good for the mind.

He wandered along the crunchy, dead grass, for now steering clear of the few other patients. The air felt much better during the day, smelled much better to him as well as he sniffed at it. even if it was cold enough to make his nose hurt. It reminded him uncomfortably of Jotunheim, and...

But at least here, there was sunlight. He wasn't trapped in that dark place as sometimes was in his nightmares.

Loki stopped about halfway down the field, tilting his head back to take in the thin sunlight, his eyes slipping shut.

[Here, angel angel angel... :D Castiel!]

Scar looked up at him. "Die and come back? You mean they reappear here?" He paused for a moment. "I'm supposed to be dead."

At least this 'hospital' treated wounds. That would probably come in handy. Especially given that they healed quickly, too, from what he said.

"A lot of people show up here when they thought they died in their real life," Renji said, shrugging. "Maybe that's an easier time to snatch us or something. I was pretty sure I was dead, too. No, I mean like... actually die here, in this place. And then later come back."

"That's just..." he was thinking out loud. Bizarre? Crazy? He had no idea anymore. This place clearly had the ability to mess with time itself. Lust got here before he did. And she was pulled from Amestris a few weeks after he was. Was Landel's power actually that unlimited? It should have scared Scar, but it only made him more frustrated. More angry. Then he realized he should probably thank this man for the information.

"Thank you," he said shortly, running a hand through his hair and going back to watching the ground.

"Yeah, no problem," Renji said. "It's all stuff anyone who isn't some kind of giant space asshole should tell you anyway. Don't know why some people are still so secretive about shit. It doesn't buy you anything. We're all gonna sink or swim together if we want out of this fuckin' place."

He wondered if he should tell Scar that they'd met before, but the poor guy seemed already on the verge of a brain meltdown, and it probably wouldn't help matters to drop that particular bomb. Besides, it wasn't as if Renji knew why sometimes people came back with their memories, and sometimes without. He didn't know enough, and that kind of speculation could really fuck a guy up if he was prone to brooding. Which he was betting Scar was.

Scar frowned thoughtfully. "Why would people be secretive about information? If it were pooled together, I'm sure someone would have escaped by now." Because he sure as hell wasn't going to run around asking everyone about every little bit of info they'd gathered about this damned hospital.

"Though I guess I've met my fair share of idiots like that." Even though he wouldn't admit it, nearly everyone was an idiot of some sort in Scar's mind. Though he guessed he didn't mind this man. Straightforward. Not mellow-dramatic like Lust could be. She said he would need allies? Fine.

"What was your name?"

"That's kind of my point," Renji said, then shrugged. "Though I don't know about that. Even collected all together, I don't think we know all that much." Which was an annoying thing to admit, but then again, even the people who had been here the longest had only been around for a few months. That really wasn't all that much time, in the grand scale of things, no matter how long it actually felt.

"Huh, oh yeah. Abarai Renji." He bowed. He'd completely forgotten the introduction thing, mostly because his brain kept telling him he already knew Scar. "We do names differently back home. So Renji's my... uh... given name."
