And this hallway, too, was filled with the bodies of monsters. Other prisoners were here as well, with some in the middle of fighting against monsters of the living variety. Zero noticed the ease at which many of these humans were able to fight and felt a bit of relief. It was not only him being blessed with power, then. Others would be able to defend themselves properly with their own abilities.

wrrrrrrr...

...Including himself. Zero turned around to face perhaps the most hideous dog he'd ever seen, skin falling apart and eyes glowing red. (Skin decaying on a living creature...now where had he seen that before?) The dog bared its teeth at him, snarling, and slowly approached as the once-Reploid shifted his stance and prepared himself.

For a fight that would never happen. Suddenly, the sound of singing (http://damned.livejournal.com/1189937.html?thread=80911409#t80911409) filled the air, and the dog (along with every other monster in the area) mysteriously collapsed. Zero stood still for a moment, expecting something else to happen, but the dog did not get up. What the...? Who did that? And was the dog dead? After a moment of staring, he approached it carefully and jabbed the side of its body with the end of his pipe to see what it would do. It didn't respond, but he could see its chest moving. So no, it wasn't dead, just knocked out by whatever that sound was. ...Odd.

In any case, might as well take advantage of this turn of events. Rather than stomping the dog into a bloody pancake like he'd done in previous monster encounters, Zero bent down, grabbed the dog's head in his hands (not bothered by touching its rotting skin in the slightest) and twisted it sharply, snapping the monster's neck. There. That should do it.

And now...he needed to get moving again. If he kept stopping to fight monsters like this, he'd never make it anywhere tonight.

But who had sung that song?
