"Oh, you know," Guybrush started, as though she actually did know in spite of her asking. "Mystical powers, ghosts, a voodoo sponge that sucks up a pox you unwittingly released on the Caribbean- things that aren't easily explained with science or by an instruction booklet." Speaking of sponges, he immediately spotted a box of them upon entering the room. Unfortunately, they were of the regular sponge variety- not that he didn't take one for good measure.
He scanned the room, looking into a lot of the boxes along the shelves as he went. Into the pillowcase went a few more items: two rolls of gauze, some burn cream (in the event his room ever caught fire again- even with the perpetrator gone, it was worth grabbing), and some empty pill bottles in case he ever found some pills that needed carrying. He also grabbed a doctor's coat, putting it on. It wasn't a fine leather jacket, but it looked marginally better than either the military garb or the sweats-and-tees combo they usually wore. And it had pockets. That was the most important thing.
"Aha, more pockets for carrying things," he remarked, modeling the coat for Maya. "Before I got here, I could carry anything I needed in my pants, from canon balls to seahorse heads. It's a shame they've been broken since I arrived. It would make having my entire inventory on me at all times a lot easier. Maybe we'll stumble on a backpack or something while searching these rooms."
