Jeez it was cold. Ritsuka had never noticed the dropping temperature before, but he'd had sweats and a jacket on then. Since the new military uniform had long-sleeves, he'd thought he would be okay, even with the snow outside. He'd forgotten that with the electricity off at night, it meant the heating was off, too. Now he was too far from his room to go back and grab the leather jacket, so he'd just have to grin and bear it.
"Stupid cold..." he muttered to himself, pausing halfway across the hallway to turn on his flashlight. The beam was weak and it took a few shakes to get it to glow any brighter, but soon enough it was cutting at least a meager lifeline across the floor. Ritsuka's cat ears flicked this way and that as he listened for anything that might be lurking on the stairs and frowned when he thought he picked up the sounds of someone fighting up there. He swore these stairs were out to eat him or something.
With a sigh, Ritsuka hefted the backpack up a little more and started forward again.
