Battler fell silent after that, returning his attention back to the scrubbing the floor. Arguing further would look more like denial than affirmation, and anyway, there was no need for him to prove it either way. At least, not to anyone but her..... Outside opinions weren't needed. Not for something like this.
The next part however, more than caught his attention. Everything that was being said, just felt... wrong. If this boy had heard of him before from an outside source, it might have explained a little about the direction of this conversation, but from Ange? How? When would they have had the chance to meet...? And as for the rest, he had no recollection of something like that at all. Even if he'd forgotten, shouldn't it have at least sounded vaguely familiar? ... It didn't. More than that, it was ... bizarre. Pretending for a second that he had forgotten, wasn't that odd? Those weren't really the sorts of things you'd normally share with a stranger, right? Still... He didn't seem to be lying, and the things being said were too specific to be coincidental. You couldn't really mistake that sort of thing, right...? At any rate, it certainly had to have come from somewhere.
And just where did that leave him? With a hole in his memories....? ... No, there had to be some other explanation. Something like that would just be too convenient.
"... Is that so," he commented dubiously. "You say that, but I definitely don't remember anything like that ever happening. Was that all I said?" It was a longshot, but if he could at least uncover some more information about it, maybe he could find some kind of hint. It was worth a try, at least.
He tried to place the last the question, but it seemed a bit removed from the rest, and in the end, he couldn't quite make sense of it. "I woke up sometime last night. Why...?" They didn't seem quite connected, but between that and the rest of the conversation, he couldn't say he was very optimistic about where this was heading.
