Night 70: Main Hallway, 1-Center
[from here]
He proceeded quickly. Gripped his flashlight tightly, keeping it steadily centered forward. Sweeping the light across the floor horizontally would slow them down and anyway, the beam didn't cover anything behind them. They'd just have to be alert. And quick.
"What other things have you heard lurked here?" he said, failing to keep his voice casual—too serious, too strained—but he barely paid attention to that. He could rectify it later, attribute any slip-ups to nervousness. It wouldn't even be a lie. "And who'd you hear it from?"

There wasn't anyone in this corridor, but there was a sense of conflict. It was too dark to see much in the way of details, if there had been fights, but atmosphere was very difficult to ignore, even taking into account the general atmosphere of the Institute.
Gabe kept his eyes forward and, while he didn't run, he did make haste. He didn't want to be in this hallway any longer than necessary. He didn't want to take the risk there might be something else in here too.
no subject
He couldn't tell specifics. He wouldn't have been able to tell specifics even if his power wasn't bound. Too much movement.
Gabe was right about one thing - stopping here was a bad idea. Before he'd even come to a full stop, Skulduggery was walking again, quicker than before. Part of the problem was that if they were caught in a fight, there was a very good chance Skulduggery would be forced to use Necromancy again, and he would go to very great lengths to stop that from happening.
The fact that the last time Skulduggery and Gabe were here, he almost was Lord Vile, might have had something to do with his sudden haste as well.
Gabe, Skulduggery remembered numbly, was an Archangel. What must he be thinking about all this? How was it possible that, even after feeling the evil for himself, he'd volunteered to rescue Skulduggery from the Faceless Ones' dimension when this was all over?
