Night 70: M11-M20 Hallway

"Just because you may have found some unusual little nook or cranny somewhere..." Ah, that was clearly directed toward him, and anyone else who would be poking their nose into someplace it presumably didn't belong tonight. Kratos smiled grimly as he worked his way through all of the belts lining his old uniform. As tedious as the process was, it was comforting to go through an old, familiar routine, and it forced him to stop and take the time to think through the night's plans clearly while he buckled everything into place. Hopefully, Castiel wouldn't ask too many questions about his choice of clothing, even though he probably had good reason to ask.

He finished up his preparations by inserting the batteries he'd bought into the radio. It took a few tries to get everything to match up, but eventually, it was cheerily playing the advertised children's songs. Of course, he'd make sure to try out its other, far more useful function, but he could wait. Satisfied, Kratos turned off the radio and headed out the door.

Murphy had spent a lazy day. And he didn't even care. He needed sleep. He even felt relatively okay, after spending most of the day napping.

By the time night rolled around, the former convict thought he was actually in pretty good shape to deal with it. Again he hadn't bothered to make any plans with anyone, but he had found that didn't seem to matter. He found people, and usually it worked out okay.

He grabbed his flashlight and the chair from in front of his desk. One of these days he figured he'd need to find a better weapon, but the chair worked just fine. And maybe he'd run into Gabe tonight. He wouldn't mind that at all.

Somehow, that guy had become something of an anchor. He might not have been an actual priest, but somehow that was better. And talking to him always seemed to help. He was still pissed off at what the Institute had done to him, and the false memories still made his stomach turn, but he felt like he could deal with it better.

At least he'd talked about it.

And now he was done talking and he was going to act. A very simple and vague plan of action, but it had served him pretty good in the past.

Nightly supplies in hand, Murphy headed out down the hall.

Tonight, Tolten took the time to change into the military uniform he preferred for nightly excursions. It was funny, how much a physical improvement had made a difference. Oh, he still had moments where he felt so miserable he swore he'd be sick, but it wasn't a constant.

He had absolutely no idea what to do with himself, however. He had a goodly amount of supplies, by his estimation - preserved food, his sword, information - but it all amounted to little use as was. This wasn't at all what he was used to. They knew who the villain was, but there was no way to get to him. And unlike the young king's previous adventures, there didn't seem to be a handy string of clues leading directly to the doctor.

The clues that there were...well, Tolten could hardly decipher them! He'd never been any good at that sort of thing, speaking plainly and hoping others would do the same. Hidden meanings and double intentions and all of that were somewhat over his head.

He should have made proper plans. But he found that so difficult to do now. Well, he would head out and see what happened. It was really all he could do, at this point.

And it was better than remaining in his room all night!

Gren didn't show up for dinner; that was a sign of the unfortunate. Even worse was when his ring showed up in Edgar's possessions, its crimson gem easy to spot amongst the various pieces parts that lined his assigned box. Edgar pushed aside remnants of his first radio, fishing out the ring, holding it before his eyes for examination- it was identical to Ryuuzaki's, just like the one Gren had received the day following their unexpected trip to the basement. A quick examination of Gren's closet and drawers told him what he suspected, all of his roommate's things suspiciously missing: it was likely he was gone.

Edgar sighed, closing Gren's closet. That made two roommates to disappear before him. Gren seemed to have lost hope already; he couldn't allow himself to do the same.

He hurried to finish preparations for the night, grabbing the rest of his supplies: his shovel, the toy radio he'd acquired in town, his doctor's coat, flashlight, a roll of bandages... and the ring, which he pocketed at the last second. While he didn't know where the gem would take them, there was no telling if or when they'd need a quick escape, either. It could be useful.

That was, of course, if they survived the night.
