Night 68: West Wing, Hall 2-A
[From here.]
Just like before, Zero navigated through this new, unfamiliar hallway by sticking close to a wall, keeping one hand pressed against it as he walked so he could make sure he didn't leave it. Of course, there wasn't much that he could see here... He could just barely make out the wall he was walking close to, and that was all. At least he could tell when he passed doors even without seeing, as his hand ran across door frames when he passed them - though it wasn't like it ultimately mattered. He wasn't going to stop at any of them. The only door that he was interested in passing through was the one he was quite certain was at the very end of the hallway, a door that would lead him into another area that was farther from the stairwells - and the farther he could get from where most living people would bother to go, the better.
...He was so focused on just getting away, however, that he almost walked into the wall at the end of the hallway, it came up so unexpectedly. Fortunately his steel pipe, which had been held down at his side while pointing forward a bit, struck the wall before the rest of him did. The sound of metal hitting a hard surface, along with the feeling of his pipe pushing back against his hand, immediately stopped him in his tracks. That was...close. To understate it.
Before he let himself become too frustrated at how the darkness was leading him blindly into walls, he resumed his movement and quickly came upon the door he'd been hunting for. Surprisingly, it wasn't locked...although perhaps there was a reason for that? He could hear the rain on the other side just by standing next to the door, in any case. Outside? There was a way to get out from up here?
...That was definitely worth investigating.

Once Zero got inside, he slammed the door shut and leaned against it so that he could catch his breath. Hopefully the eagle-like creature wasn't going to try to get in here...could it even fit through the door, he wondered...? (Probably not.)
As the adrenaline began to pass, his shivering body recognized just how cold it was when one stepped inside after being in the rain for several minutes. Pain also returned full force, including something new and sharp in his right leg that he hadn't noticed until now. It felt like a line that went from the lower back thigh down his calf, and he could tell just from the way his pant leg was sticking to skin that it was a pretty deep wound.
It had also just occurred to him that he had not once wanted to eat the eagle-like creature that attacked him. Whether that was good or bad...he wasn't sure. Should he have felt any half-starved desire, even for such a creature? ...But he ultimately decided not to dwell on it too long. Even if he had wanted to eat it, a monster eagle was no loss compared to a prisoner, who actually did matter.
The prisoners...
From the sound of it, he was still alone. He couldn't hear any sounds at all...just eerie silence. Not even in the more major hallways? Perhaps he was lucky.
In any case, thanks to that eagle-like monster, he was going to have to find a new hiding place. Zero pushed himself from the door and moved forward through the darkness; he was finding it hard to walk on his bleeding leg without a small limp.
