Night 68: M41-M50 Hallway

Even before the Head Doctor had finished making his final announcement for the night, Lloyd was up and ready, his dinner long since abandoned. He knew he was going to be hungry tonight, but he just couldn't bring himself to stomach the spaghetti on his plate. Ugh, maybe if he'd had a sink he could have rinsed off the tomato sauce, but somehow he doubted even that could have saved it. The salad at least had been edible, once he'd picked the tomatoes out and added the crushed peppers to help cover any lingering taste.

As he'd changed into his clothes, Lloyd had discovered he had one more possession added to his small collection. My lock picks! He blinked in surprise at the small pouch he'd almost forgotten he'd picked up the night before. It had been so startling to find himself back in his own world that he hadn't even thought about trying to keep anything and bring it back to Landel's. Honestly, he'd been hoping that he was home to stay, though that would have caused problems for Ishida, Inoue, and Karkat. Somehow, though, the problem of getting them back to their home would have felt more surmountable in his world than it felt like when they were prisoners here at Landel's. Being pulled back here had been disheartening.

He shook his head. Focus on tonight. Last night had been a disappointment, but it had proved there was a way back. Now he just had to figure out how to find it again. In the mean time, though, he needed to be prepared to make sure he and his friends lived to see it. His roommate, Claude, was definitely recovered from his sickness, but what if someone else came down with it? He needed to get some of that plant from the greenhouse. That was his goal for tonight.

Once again, he pulled the pillow case off of his pillow, folded it and tucked it into his belt, then slid his knife into a belt loop on his other side. The lock picks went into his pocket, and after a moment's thought so did the map from his journal, torn loose with a couple extra pages. He didn't want to carry the whole book, but if something happened tonight like last night, with doors leading to the wrong places, he wanted to be prepared to at least try to find his way. He pocketed a pen, too, in case he came across a new room, or something he'd need to write down. His flash light, switched off for now, stayed in his hand. As soon as he heard the soft click of the locks, he gave one final glance at Claude, already asleep, then took off down the hall.

When Guy reached M44, he rapped on the door and waited for a few seconds, but got no response. Well, that was strange. Guy didn't mind if Claude had gotten held up by something, but now he was actually worried. He sucked in a breath and stepped inside.

Only to find that Claude was basically a lump under his covers. That was hardly the norm, and Guy tilted his head at the sight for a moment before he stepped over. "Fast asleep," he mumbled to himself before he reached out for Claude's shoulder and gave it a few hard shakes. When Claude didn't even stir or shift around after that, Guy figured that he was out for the count, at least for tonight.

While sleeping like this wasn't a good sign, Guy wasn't going to assume the worst just yet. Claude might just need the rest, after all of the stress that had come with that illness.

"Guess it'll just be Anise, Luke, and I tonight, then," he said as he turned back toward the door. Unless Anise was in a similar state, but he'd find that out soon enough. Since he was just going to waste time if he stuck around waiting for Claude to wake up when it wasn't likely to happen, Guy went down the hall back the way he came and then exited the patient block.
