Day 66: Greenhouse
Gabriel, no matter how hypocritical or snide Landel's well-wishes might have been under the veneer of niceness, had actually in fact had a rather nice morning. He'd managed to help Skulduggery eat something and checked in with Castiel. His brother's illness was, to all appearances, gone. Although the surgery itself wasn't going to be easy to recover from, at least that was an injury Castiel has chosen and wouldn't turn him into a monster.
So the Archangel was humming absently as he was led outside, smiling and, for the moment, more convinced than ever that he was where his Master intended him to be. Rachel had made it known she didn't think it would be a good idea for him to hover, so after making sure Castiel would be okay Gabriel had asked to go to the greenhouse this lunch-time, thinking of Lee and still with the idea of possibly making smoothies. Rachel had thrown up her hands and shaken her head when he toed off his shoes at the doorway, but she got her own back once they reached the greenhouse and Gabriel surveyed the stony path ruefully.
"Now maybe this will teach you to keep them on," she said, shaking a finger, taking the slippers and crouching to slide them onto his feet as if he was a child. "It's for your own good, you know. You'll injure your feet if you go around like that all the time."
"I'm sorry," Gabe said with a smile, not as repentant as he probably should have been and using the mischief to hide the ache in his chest. This woman was, at best, brainwashed and cursed to turn into a monster at night. He almost hoped she was complicit; the alternative was nearly too much to bear.
Still, as awful as the thought was, he set it aside as best as he could to avoid ruining his thus-far nice day. While Rachel watched from one of the tables, Gabe wandered through the greenhouse, eating his beef sandwich from the hand while enjoying the company of the plants and keeping an eye out for any fruit-trees.
[for Rock Lee!]

After checking around the courtyard to be sure he wasn't completely missing someone important (like Sasuke), he headed on into the glass building with his lunch in hand. The atmosphere was somewhat steamy, but considering the chill in the air outside it was definitely necessary. Lee smiled as he fell into pace behind another wandering patient, carefully scoping out the plantlife as he dug into his sandwich. The was only one other couple in the place, and they seemed already to be engaged in conversation. Lee hoped this stranger wouldn't mind a little talk themself.
"Good afternoon, sir!" Lee stepped up his pace, coming up next to the wander young man. "I do hope today has been treating you well, despite the circumstances!" And last, but not least, Lee offered him a huge grin. It was all part and parcel of being Rock Lee.

The Archangel rose and turned abruptly, momentarily startled, but being met with a greeting like that? Well, what else could he do but grin back? Given what kind of place this was, seeing someone with as such enthusiasm was encouraging. (Likely the teen was a newcomer as well, but that wasn't necessarily a bad thing.) "Good afternoon! The morning was pretty great, all things considered. Here's hoping the rest of the day goes as well. How's your day been?"
no subject
Lee gave him a thumbs up with his left hand. It felt a little out of place, but he didn't let the discomfort show on his face. "Other than being returned here, my day has been Excellent so far! Thank you for asking!"
He was so unironically polite, so refreshing! Lee liked the people here, even if being here was a bother. He gazed around, taking in the comforting sight of plants. "Is there anything in particular you are looking for today? Perhaps I can help look!"

"Actually, I was planning to look around for some fruit-trees," he said, "in case we could convince the nurses to make some smoothies." The Archangel paused, wondering for just a moment if being forthright would cause offence before deciding that it was highly unlikely in this instance. "You wouldn't by any chance be Lee-kun?"
sorry this is so late, the weather has been a killer on my net connection
The Konoha nin, already grinning rather hugely, smiled even brighter if such a thing were humanly possible. "I am! Rock Lee, the beautiful beast of Konoha! And you," the ninja held up his thumb in a Nice Guy pose, "you would be Gabe-san, yes?"
Surely it couldn't be anyone else! Or else this could be a very awkward mistake on Lee's part. It wasn't likely there was anyone else looking for smoothie ingredients, though it was always a possibility. But even if he was mistaken, that would be fine. Lee had learned to never feel ashamed even if he fell flat on his face.
no worries, i have been awful myself
He pointed down at the herb garden to indicate the range of plants and glanced over his shoulder at Rachel. She was chatting to another nurse, still keeping an eye on him, but not too much so that he shouldn't get away with picking some leaves if h was quick about it.

Lee's eyes moved to where Gabe pointed and he saw much potential in that plot. "Hmm, so, how do we go about gathering without... our lovely friends noticing?"

With a conspiratorial wink the nurses wouldn't be able to see, Gabriel knelt on the path and bent to take a deep breath of lavender. The hand nearest the nurses held his lunch-bag; the other was quick and darting, plucking off several sprigs of the purple flowers and sliding them into his pocket in a smooth motion that wouldn't crumple them.
Then Gabriel sat upright again with a grin. "They do smell lovely, though," he said sincerely. And were potential remedies the Archangel rather doubted Landel would make it easy for them to have, if the nurses only knew.
