NIGHT 65: O.R. SUPPLY ROOM (NORTH)
[From here]
This was what he was looking for! Thankfully he didn't have to worry about grabbing one of everything now that he had found this medical kit. Pain killers, though... He had no idea what they might look like, or be called. All of these bottles were white! Not even red or blue to indicate their strength! How did people know what they were doing, here?
It seemed like he'd just have to grab one of everything after all.
Scooping the various medications, Link darted to the back wall where all the tools were kept. He grabbed three scalpels and several sponges. Link couldn't fathom what the other tools were used for.
With all of his things stuffed in the pillow case, Link was off once again. He prayed he wasn't too late.

Small blessings, thought Soma: everything in here was neatly labeled and packed away. She scanned the list Lingormr had given her and opened up the pillowcase again. He was right; just about everything he needed was in here.
"Any headway on that clue?" she murmured as she pulled bottles and bandages from their boxes.
Nothing, said Marie apologetically. You don't recognize the leaves, either?
Soma shook her head. "They could mean...outside, I guess. The forest. Does that fit with the story?"
Nothing's coming to mind.
Right. Ketamine, propofol. The rest of the equipment went into the pillowcase. Soma tied off the top and headed out again.

As soon as he saw the bottles neatly lined up on the shelves, Niikura could have cried. "Alright, what have we got here," he murmured underneath his breath as he scanned the labels. No way could he use something that would require an IV drip; he wasn't even sure if Shiina's form had veins. No, it'd have to be an inhalation agent...his finger stopped on a bottle labeled "sevoflurane". Perfect. Niikura grabbed the bottle and stuffed it into his pocket before heading over to other shelves to look for some more supplies: a pair of forceps, a scalpel, some bandages, thread, and a needle. His pockets seemed to be holding up so far; this miliary uniform was really useful, actually.
With all of his gear now safely acquired, there was just one last thing to find: Shiina herself. Unfortunately, that would also be the hardest part, but he'd do it. He had to.

A ruffle of feathers in a corner of the room, but little other noise accompanied the movement of the girl-turned-monster. Awkwardly, the nubby toes of the tempest drew it out of its its corner, the serpentine neck swaying this way and that. It turned its milky white gaze onto the boy shuffling through the drawers and cabinetry.
It blinked once. Twice. Feathers ruffled again then it raised its wings, an electric change filling the air like static.

He had just turned to head out the door when he heard it: the low crackle of electricity where it clearly had no place being. Maybe...!
His heart racing, Niikura shone his flashlight around the room seeking to find the little bird behind that unnatural noise. The first go-around, he was searching so fast that he totally missed it, but the second time...there she was. It occurred to him that there had to be other lightning-birds within the institute, but somehow, his gut was telling him that this was The One.
Alright. Now all he had to do was knock it unconscious and operate. That sounded so easy. "Nice birdy," Niikura said as he backed up slowly, easing the kitchen gloves out of his pocket and gingerly putting them on. "Good birdy. Just...put the wings down and no one will get hurt."
Man, he really hoped Shiina wouldn't remember any of this when she returned.

The tempest ruffled its feathers again, flattening its wings against its body. It recognized neither Niikura's face or his words, but so far he had done nothing to indicate a threat.
The creature's head turned away and it hobbled towards the door, as if to leave. Then, right as it reached the exit, it turned back sharply, alert. The wings started to come up again, its posture turning without provocation. Its senses did not run on logic, as might have been expected from a more cognizant creature.

...well, in that case, it was now or never. Niikura slowly slid the bottle of sevoflurane out of his pocket and carefully unscrewed the cap. Setting the cap aside for the moment, he dipped one of the bandages he'd taken into the liquid, making sure to not inhale the fumes while he worked before resealing the bottle. This was going to be kind of like the movies, except twenty times more dangerous.
One step forward, and then another. His hands were held up, one clutching the bandage, the other ready to protect himself from any lightning that got thrown at him. "Nice birdy," Niikura murmured again as he drew closer. Two more steps...one more...
With the speed of a cat, he pounced on the tempest, quickly winding the sevoflurane-soaked bandage around the bird's bulbous head. The thing had no nostrils to speak of, but it had to breathe somehow, and he figured that, despite its bizarre appearance, it was still anatomically mostly like a normal bird. Hopefully.

Until he threw himself at it. Then all its curiosity turned into fright and rage. Releasing an electric current through its wings, it flapped and shuddered in the boy's grasp with a strength unexpected of such a small creature. But that strength couldn't keep up a fight against drugs, even those being administered in such an odd way.
The struggles weakened, though they didn't completely stop. It twitched and wiggled in his arms, but it couldn't fight against his strength. Like a fish wiggling on a line and left out of the water, slowly suffocating on dry air.

Shiina was starting to weaken; he could feel her starting to give in under the influence of the sedative. Just a few seconds more, and she would probably be completely limp--perfect. He could move on to the second phase of his great master plan that he was also making up on the fly.
Standing up slowly, Niikura held the tempest out at arms length while he edged back into the operation room.
