Nightshift 63: Bus 3
With the blond's outburst disturbing not only the peace and quite of the trip back, but the trip itself by way of a detour into a damn tree, Kurogane's patience had worn thin by well before the sun had begun to set. No amount of alcohol would have helped temper his mood either. Stuck on the side of the road with the night drawing ever closer... it was almost as though Landel had intended for something like this. That man knew what happened were they not back in the building by nightfall, and a good number of them knew the same.
Probably not the blond idiot.
Though his patience was all but gone, his attention to the situation was heightened with the threat of darkness closing in. Each passing moment put them closer to another attack like before, and if there was where the night was to begin, he wasn't going to be trapped in any vehicle, moving or otherwise. That decision kept him on edge, watching between the window and the bus's back door beside him and waiting with the only remaining patience he had to spare.
"Be ready," was all he'd said to the girl beside him, knowing or at least hoping that she understood what was soon to come. He wasn't sure if she'd been there the time before, but as a ninja she should have known enough to expect anything with the tension aboard.
The moment he caught the sun's final dip beyond the horizon, he was out of his back seat and unhinging the emergency hatch for a quick exit to the ground, expecting that Tsubaki would be close behind. "Come on!" he barked back before starting around the bus at a quick pace. The town was long gone, but the chance stood that the Institute would be not too far ahead of them.

And judging by the unpleasant noises reality made as it twisted, it was definitely nothing good.
Loki made a mental note of what he could see. He'd think about it later. At the moment, considering the way the nurse was lurching about and looking rather un-nurse-like at the front of the bus, leaving seemed like a very good idea. Immediately some of the other prisoners opened the emergency exit, and he almost went that way.
But he'd also seen Soma on the bus. She was perhaps his only friend at the institute, and while he wasn't about to die for her, he did have a certain amount of loyalty. Loki rose smoothly to his feet and launched himself over the backs of the bus seats, faster and far more nimble than a human really had any business being. Speed seemed like a good idea, however. Considering the dark and confusion, it was unlikely to be noticed, or could be easily dismissed by the distractions.
He dropped lightly onto the seat behind Soma and Castiel. "This seems rather unpleasant. I think we ought to get out of here, don't you?" he said to Soma. For the moment, he wasn't all that worried about Castiel, though he wouldn't mind at all if the man came along. He seemed calm under pressure, at least, which was invaluable.
[Soma and Castiel!]

She wasn't.
Soma could only gape as the nurses shrieked, warping into creatures that were all warped flesh and glinting metal. It was just as well their attention wasn't focused on her, she thought dumbly; she probably would have been killed otherwise.
It was Marie who finally kicked her into action. Wake up! came the thought, and it jolted her upright. She snapped her jaw shut, turning just as Lingormr dropped into the seat behind her. Despite her still-lingering terror, she managed a weak smile at him.
Two quick-thinking patients had already opened the emergency exit. She swallowed and glanced at Castiel. "We should follow their lead," she said, indicating with a hand. "And see if any other patients need help being evacuated."

It was difficult to know if it had been planned this way or not, but that hardly mattered. This was the first time that Castiel had actually seen day turn to night here in a way that was signified by more than just a light turning off and a door unlocking. He watched with hardly any change on his expression as the nurses on their buses started to twist and distort into something mindless and bloodthirsty.
All the animals in the surrounding area had to be in the same position, which meant that they were completely trapped. He turned toward Soma, watching as she jolted to attention, but before he could say anything Lingormr reached them. So he and Soma were acquainted?
Two others had beat them to the emergency exit, but Castiel had to agree that following their lead would be the best option now. Part of him wondered if he should try to take down that nurse, but he had no weapon and barely any powers; all he would do was hurt himself. Sam and Dean might not have let that stop them, but he wasn't not the same as them. Not at all.
Besides, Soma seemed to be thinking about offering help to at least some degree, and so Castiel's newly grown conscience could rest at ease. He stood up from the seat, relieved to see that the nurses weren't particularly fast despite their transformation.
Not needing to give a verbal agreement, he started for the emergency exit, holding it open for the other two to get through. His head was starting to pound again, filled with adrenaline and a slight edge of panic, but he ignored it for now.

He stuffed his book securely into his jacket, not wanting to lose it since he hadn't gotten to read the entire thing yet. He hazarded a glance at the thing that had once been a nurse and said, "Yes, quickly, let's." While he was fairly certain he could fight the nurse if it came to that, he didn't particularly want to. If nothing else, that would be far more revealing of his true capabilities than he liked.
Loki covered the short distance via the backs of the seats again, leaving the aisle clear for other people with less balance. He slipped through the exit then paused to offer his hand to Soma.

"Emergency exit's open!" she called to the rest of the bus as she headed toward it. "Try and get there if you can!"
She took Lingormr's hand and dropped to the ground without much trouble, though there was another moment where she had to hesitate and steady herself again. This was ridiculous. Right. Focus. Turning to the exit again, she concentrated. Even through the growing headache, Marie might be able to tell if any of the other patients needed assistance.

Then again, instincts tended to persist despite the loss of any higher reasoning. Castiel wouldn't be surprised if she clawed her way out with those scalpels.
Shaking his head, he dropped out of the bus after the other two.
