Night 61: Kitchen
[From here]
Renji paused to listen again, then moved forward into the kitchen. "Okay," he murmured to Daemon. "It's the middle door in the back. There's a tile in there that's a trap door. Or at least that's how it was before I got my ass killed, so hopefully it hasn't changed."
That said, he moved through the kitchen, heading for the refrigerator. His movements were as silent as he could make them. That sure felt easier wearing his uniform, at least, like he was ready for action.

"Is there anything useful worth retrieving in here, or not really?" he asked as they moved towards the door in the back, eyes skimming over the cupboard doors and drawers that they passed.

"Besides, a skillet was more my brother's style than mine. Too unwieldy. I'll do well enough with a makeshift staff for the time being. I miss my old set of daggers, however," he mused as they approached the set of doors at the back of the room. "The middle one, right?"

He headed to the middle door.

New territory, now. Hakkai stuck by the door, and played the flashlight over the room. It was certainly larger than any kitchen he'd seen before - and a bit better appointed, too.

"There's probably a pantry here," he commented, looking around. There were a couple unopened doors. It was just a matter of deciding which to try, and hoping nothing jumped out at them.

"Given the size of this kitchen... they might all be pantries," he replied. "Though someone has come through here already."

If someone had gone to the trouble to break in, and it was fairly clear that they had, from the state of things, they might as well look. Of course, it could mean that whatever was of interest was gone now, but unlike with some of the other rooms, he didn't really think there was any harm in checking anyway.

He glanced back at his companion. "Would you like some too?" It was only polite to offer, after all.

...he wasn't going to calculate that. It was just too depressing.
"Sure, I guess."

"The other two doors are probably dry goods," he called out, still halfway into an under-the-counter cupboard. "Canned goods should be in there, and mm, tell me if you find any flour and sugar?" In for a penny, in for a pound, after all. And cookies would last a bit longer than scrambled eggs.

In the end, he didn't find anything he really wanted for himself, but it had been simple enough to find the containers labeled with the ingredients Hakkai had asked for. He set them off to the side on one of the counters. "Got it."
no subject
"Can you handle these for a few minutes? Just keep them moving with the spatula."

Eggs weren't really very complicated, after all. He was pretty sure he could babysit them successfully.
