Night 61: West Wing, South Hall 1-A

[from here]

Still nothing out of the ordinary here. Soma kept jogging, keeping her eyes peeled for any movement in the shadows ahead.

"Hey, sometimes danger and fun go hand-in-hand! A little bit of danger puts a little bit of adrenaline into exploring. Plus, there's the anticipation of finding something new and the unknown!" To Locke, the unknown was exhilarating and held that little bit of suspense that made life fun. It was why he enjoyed traveling and looking for treasures in places few ever went.

Besides, the unknown often held a bit of danger just from what it was. That was, probably one of the few parts of these nightly outings that he actually enjoyed, other than the time he spent with Tolten; not knowing what might be around the next corner. Sure, it was dangerous, but as long as he stayed alert he felt like it couldn't be that bad.

It probably wasn't the most healthy way to live, but he'd never been one to go about the safe path of life, either.

"Is it the same stairs we used before?"

"I prefer my new and unknown to have less a chance of wickedly pointed teeth!"

But there was something to be said for finding exhilaration and affirmation in dangerous situations. That was another lesson, really. Live life to its fullest and enjoy the danger for a reminder you're alive. Admit to fear but don't let it rule.

Though that was a good question, and Tolten found himself pondering what Jansen would do in the same situation. Not give one whit which stairs it actually was and just wander about until he found a locked door, most likely.

"All stairs go to the second floor anyway, don't they?" he ventured. "It probably doesn't make one bit of difference which stairs we go up. I didn't actually go there myself, you see, I was just told about it. But one way or another we'll find locked doors!"

He shrugged and lead them down the hall. "Well then I guess we can just take the usual route but, this time, we'll turn." No point heading down the hall that lead from the staircase, that only went to the patio and there were plenty of other halls they hadn't gone down to explore.

All they needed was to find a door, locked or unlocked, that they could check; maybe they'd get lucky and find something on their first try. Locke wasn't going to hold his breath on that one, though.
