Night 61: M-A Block Hallway
[Coming from here.]
Daemon stepped out of the long hall of doors and into the corridor that connected the male hallways. It was quiet yet, so maybe he hadn't taken as long as he'd thought. Figuring this was as good a place to any to wait for Renji, he settled back against the far wall, slouching slightly as he settled in to wait. Hands tucked casually into his pockets, he couldn't quite stifle the amused smile that kept threatening to resurface.

He tapped the mop handle lightly against the wall just to let Daemon know he was coming. Since no one liked being surprised at night.
Though it had been pretty hilarious his first night back. Daemon had looked ready to shit a brick.
"Hey, man."
no subject
"Hey yourself," he greeted, then held out a piece of paper folded several times over to the redhead. "This is yours." Nothing in his expression gave him away. For all appearances, Daemon was simply handing over a note or a sketch or something else along those lines.

A loud, almost melodramatic BWAHAHAHAHA echoed down the hallway.
Renji dropped the note on the floor and seemed to just evaporate, ending up ten feet down the hallway without ever having moved, though the mop handle was now firmly in front of him.
He stared at the little piece of paper on the floor, his shoulders relaxing.
Renji burst into gales of helpless laughter, dropping down to sit on the floor, the mop handle beside him as he slapped the floor with one hand.

"I hope you brought an extra pair of pants," he teased Renji as he came to crouch in front of him, his golden eyes bright with humor and mischief.

And then he was reduced to another round of near-hysterical giggling.

"Lucky me," he drawled in amusement, shaking his head at the Shinigami. "And I bet you didn't think I'd do it, either. It's not very wise to challenge me, you know," he teased, his voice playful as he propped his forearms on his knees and grinned at the male.

He wiped at his eyes with one hand, finally done with the laughter. "Now I know better, I guess."
no subject
"Although I admit, watching you jump ten feet and fall over made everything worth it," he added, shooting Renji a wicked grin as he held out a hand to him to help him up.

It had felt good to laugh. He hadn't laughed like that in what felt like a really long time. But there also wasn't normally much to laugh about, it felt like.

What on earth?
Tolten had a moment of intense and sudden fear upon hearing maniacal laughter echo down the hallway as he approached he and Locke's meeting place. The moment passed quickly and he reminded himself that even if Gongora was here in this world, he was brainwashed and wandering around somewhere beyond the walls of the institute. It was just some madness...most likely. Really, at this point, questioning anything he saw or heard at night was pointless.
There were a handful of other people in the hallway, as far as the young king could tell, so he stepped against the wall and waited for his friend, glancing nervously now and again down the hallway.
[Locke!]

At the very least, they could give him some details.
Looking around the hall, he spotted a few other people but smiled when his eyes landed on Tolten and he made his way to his friend.
"Hey, hope I didn't keep you waiting too long."

"No, not at all," the young king exclaimed, quite honestly. "I hope the trip here was smooth. Ah...here." Reaching into the pocket of his military coat, Tolten withdrew one of the suckers he'd gotten with his meals. "I..I have a bit of privilege, now, and...well, I have two..."
Goodness, there was no need to feel so silly! But he almost felt like a child, offering a hoarded sweet to a friend. Perhaps he shouldn't give Locke the card...
no subject
"Thank you. These are kinda rare back home. Even before people stopped making them, they weren't exactly easy to come by."
He almost didn't know if he should eat it now or wait..but it was here...besides, who knew if it would end up disappearing by morning, might as well enjoy it now.
no subject
Well, it was now or never.
"I...ah...also have this for you." He cleared his throat, flushing, and pulled out the golden glitter-covered card. Inside it simply said 'I'm truly sorry for last night, and thank you from the depths of my heart for your friendship'.
And it was too late to take it back now.
no subject
He was about to comment on it when he got distracted by the card. The very glittery card. He took a moment to read it and couldn't help the amusement he had from it.
"Thank you." Closing the distance between them, Locke pulled the taller man into a hug; it made him feel extremely happy to know Tolten valued their friendship as much as the treasure hunter did. Not that he had really doubted, but it was still something to see it written out. "Though, you know I don't blame you for that at all, right?"
no subject
And Sed had embraced him, once, in the cage of light. But they had been near death and certain there was no escape.
Tolten honestly couldn't remember ever being hugged simply out of joy and fondness. He found himself returning it, earnestly if awkwardly, and trembling some as he felt Locke's hair against his cheek.
"I know. ...But I still feel badly."
no subject
"Come on, we've got more danger to get into." He smirked and pulled away, hoping the card would be safe in his pocket till he could get back to his room, then took one of Tolten's hands and headed to the main hall where the stairs were.
Perhaps it was a little mean to fluster Totlen like that, but he found it a bit amusing and, besides, it was a nice sort of contact that reminded him , yes, the other man was still there with him; something he knew he'd always be a little paranoid about in a place like this.
no subject
Or because something was wanted of him.
It was something entirely new and delighting. And perhaps he kept feeling as a child in Locke's presence, but wasn't that normal? He'd never had a proper childhood with friends or fun or anything like that. He'd been wielding a sword since he was six, for goodness sakes! He supposed Tristan had been a friend, but the man had been his bodyguard. And Tolten hadn't even realized how much the man cared until it was far too late to matter.
"You don't need to sound so excited about it!" the young king teased, swinging his pipe at his side as he laughed. "Ah...now let me see if I can remember which stairs it was...."

The Ishbalan stood from his bed for the second time that day, marching out the door and into the hall. It was nearly pitch black! How the hell was he supposed to be able to see where he was going? At least Scar was familiar enough with the hallway Lust had indicated. The darkness didn't slow him down, much. He preferred to just plow through it, even though he could barely see a thing. Keeping his eye out for the so-called "monsters," Scar hung a right into another hallway, then to another larger one...

Usually if a guard was in that room, they would only target someone who actually entered, but he knew he couldn't take any chances. He had to take care of Kairi; Riku would except him to keep her safe, and he wasn't going to betray that trust.
For that reason, he only called out "Hey!" and gave the two a quick wave before moving past them and toward the door that would take him out. He hoped they wouldn't mind that he didn't hang around for longer than that, but he was sure that Renji, at least, would understand.

Slinking against the nearest wall as he slowly made for the nearby intersection, Wild Tiger looked the most suspicious in the quiet corridor. His flashlight slashed through the darkness like a sword, his only defense since he couldn't see very far in the pitch-black.
Up ahead there were raised voices. The former Hero followed up silently behind them, but they didn't seem like they were up to no good. The two were simply talking and so Wild Tiger continued on, uneasy and suspicious of everything he came across.
"Castiel?" He called out his roommate's name, not wanting to draw attention to himself but he was left with no other choice. Wild Tiger felt responsible for his safety, even if he was a soldier. Mental decay and a lack of training could dull anyone's skills and he couldn't let anything happened to the man because he had been unprepared. Even if nothing attacked him, what if he had a PTSD attack and threatened another person?
Wild Tiger couldn't let that happen on his watch so he kept going, calling out the name on occasion until he came to a door. There was nowhere else to go. Steeling his will, Kotetsu opened the door and continued on.

Castiel could already tell that it had been a smart move on his part to accept Aigis' offer. Each step that he took sent a jolt of pain through his side, and he doubted he would be able to get very far tonight unless that was relieved, if only slightly. Additionally, he was curious to see how exactly Aigis' power worked. He doubted it was the same as the way an angel healed, but there was only one way to find out.
The meeting place wasn't far, and yet Castiel was struggling to not lean against the walls as he made his way down the hall. It still baffled him that humans were so fragile, that a fight that didn't go well would land one in such a bad state.
Not that complaining was going to get him anywhere. He'd see Aigis and depending on how much she could heal him, he would make his decision on what to do for the night. He finally reached the door and stumbled through it. It was a good thing that he hadn't let his roommate see this, or the man might have been unwilling to leave him be.

Aside from a couple of gentleman talking together, Barnaby didn't see anything out of the ordinary. He almost wondered if someone had discovered a security breach. Judging by people's reactions, though, this wasn't an unusual occurrence. He wondered what the institute got out of letting all of them roam free at night. What was stopping people from just escaping at the first opportunity?
None of this added up. Barnaby didn't like it.
As tempting as it was to get a better look at the grounds outside now that he had a chance to move around on his own, Barnaby thought it might be best to start from the building's interior and gradually work his way out. That way, he could try to get a stronger idea of any security measures the institute may have put in place before trying to gun for an obvious escape route.
With that in mind, he hung by the wall for a moment to make absolutely certain that his path ahead was clear before slipping through the next door.

... If there was one thing he could say about this place, at least it was consistent. As in, it was friggin pitch black no matter where the hell you wound up. Perfect.
Snow found the wall and used it as a guide. But otherwise, he didn't slow his pace much at all. He just rushed on through into the darkness, hoping he'll maybe adjust his eyes to it enough to figure out what was what. It wasn't until he'd reached the end of the hall and his hand met air that he remembered he was in a completely different part of the building. The path he'd grown accustomed to walking through wasn't going to work this time.
It was kind of annoying. He had no idea where the hell he was. It was like... like he was starting all over again. But as mentioned before, there was no way a stupid thing like being lost was going to change anything. Snow just moved forward in the same direction he would have while traveling from his old room. Eventually, he found a door (see also: slammed into) and immediately threw it open.
